My middle initial. The Guatemalen agricultural economist’s middle initial is “M” – we’re different people. Saying that you will have me deported if I do not withdraw my Critique of Austrian Economics is an empty threat. I’m a U.S. citizen. I’m protected by the First Amendment, as the Auburn police reminded Jeffrey Tucker in 2004. Instead of threatening me, perhaps it would be more effective if you directed your ire at Roger Garrison for failing to defend the theory that you hold so dear.

Jackson, Jesse
If I threatened to cut a politician’s nuts out, even in the context of a humor page like this dictionary, I would be spending years in Federal prison. But Jackson gets a free pass, just like the free pass that Blacks get from college admissions offices. Why should he? His threat reflects a power struggle over the lucrative business of extorting money from whitey and, as such, it is much more likely to be carried out than the idle boast of some “lone nut” sitting in coffee shops writing what he thinks are humorous dictionary entrees. Let’s put the bastard in prison!

Jacobian
The determinant of the matrix of partial derivatives, necessary when changing variables, as Roger Garrison did in his Diagrammatical Exposition. (He studied engineering as an undergraduate, but I guess he’s since forgotten his calculus.) See Section IV of my 2004 paper.

Jingle Mail
Does anybody remember the movie, It’s a Wonderful Life, starring James Stewart as George Bailey, the owner of the Bailey Building & Loan Association, who was helping the working poor of Bedford Falls buy homes of their own? I don’t think Ben Bernanke was watching that movie when he composed the lyrics for Moral Hazard’s upcoming Christmas album, including this memorable little ditty:
Jingle mail! Jingle mail!
Jingle all the way!
Oh what fun it is to renounce,
An upside-down mortgage today!
